  • pattern：名詞：傾向（模範の型になろうとする事）、模様、原型
  • weaken (vt)：〜を弱める
  • no longer：もはや〜ない。これは、not …any longer　の変形だが、それよりも強意だという。
　＊おもろい、they no longer really worked →they do not really worked any longerと、「not + any 」＝「no」とできる。
　＊no more ...than　の応用として似た形があるから、位置を確認して、もっとしみこませなければならないな。
  • opportunity：〜をする機会。受動的な可能性についてはchanceを用いる。なのでto doを率いる場合が多々ある。面白い文例は、ダイレクトメールの決まり文句らしい、Opportunity knocks (at the door) only once.= Oppotunity knocks but once. というチャンスは一度きりという表現。
  • for a time：しばらく、少しの間
  • behavior patterns：行動様式（模範の型になろうとする習性、とでも訳せる）
  • leave (vt)：第五文型SVOCの形で＜人・事が＞O＜人・物・事＞を…のままにしておく、状態にしておく《◆Cは形容詞、分詞、副詞》とあるが、これだとO be V の形にはできないのではないか？だとしたら、Ⅱ［あとに残す］という意味での、〜を残すという意味を取るのだろうか？よくわからない。
